Local Amateurs Put On A Good Show

I am always travelling to wherever the best remote control helicopter pilots are putting on a show and so at times I will be away for 2 or 3 days just to see 5 or 10 minutes of great flying skills. But just recently it struck me like a bolt of lightning that some of the amateurs are pretty darn hot pilots.

I was on my way home from a show some 3,500 Km from my home town and driving back from the airport when I noticed some activity in a neighborhood park. I stopped the car and watched for a while as 5 local boys were showing off their piloting skills to one another. These lads were only in their early teens and were demonstrating some very difficult manouvres and managing to perform them almost perfectly. I suddenly realised that I had just spent over $2,000 to go and see a show that was maybe only 5% better than what I was watching now for free. So the lesson to be learnt here is you can see some excellent flying skills by just going to your local parks when there is a group of enthusiasts gathered to show off their skills

Some of the helicopters they were using were excellent craft for demonstrating their flying skills and I was very impressed with the overall look of their machinery. It showed me that they were interested in their sport and keen to keep their helicopters clean and looking good.

But getting back to the big shows with the professional pilots - there is no greater showman than Alan Szabo Jnr. I never tire of watching this man put his helicopters through their paces. He has done some excellent videos in the past but there is none better than this one in my mind.
